Inside the Mind of a Dog sounds like a companion piece to Inside the Mind of a Cat, also a Netflix documentary about our furry friends. But it’s not… it seems to have an entirely different focus (and Rob Lowe, narrator). Which is neither good nor bad… but interesting.
This doc goes into some very broad explanations of how dog behavior works… but has a HUGE focus on how dogs are selected and trained as working animals (mostly service dogs but also rescue dogs, bomb sniffing dogs, cancer sniffers, etc.). As such, it’s actually a pretty good look at the selection and training process… what distractions they have to ignore, what dogs are best for what tasks, etc.
Which is a whole other focus of a doc than I was expecting… but it wasn’t unwelcome so I’m a little mixed. The doc does cover dog behavior and thought on a pretty surface level which is what I was most expecting.
That said, we get an hour of footage of adorable puppies and active working dogs so its hard to be mad at that face. And those eyes. Who’s a good dog?
This is a good documentary about service dogs that happens to also vaguely cover what the title promises. It’s a fun watch and pretty informative about dog training. You could probably get equal or better content on YouTube… but its a fine Netflix watch regardless.
