What in the hell even is this 66 minute “movie” on Prime Video anyway? I’m guessing it’s something by, for, and about Brits only and maybe it just wasn’t for me (making it a mystery why its on Prime Video in the US).
It stars Jack Whitehall as himself… and if you thought to yourself “Who’s Jack Whitehall?” then you are in my boat. He plays himself as a Brit in America trying to get home for Christmas. Which means he shows up with his celebrity friends – also playing themselves – and… things happen, conversations are had, and… I dunno.
From what I’ve read Whitehall is a stand-up comedian and tv host… so it’d be like if Jimmy Fallon did a goofy hangout thing and presented it in a country who had no idea who he was. And Jimmy Fallon is in this movie playing himself so my example had a point. He’s joined by, for some random reason, Dave Bautista. And Rebel Wilson. And Michael Bublé. And a few others.
Bublé is a blip on my radar, much less my Christmas song radar (which absolutely does not work). They spend so much time making fun of him and his career as a Christmas guy, I felt absolutely left out of the conversation. Probably hilarious to Bublé fans (and, to be fair, I chuckled at some of the Christmas movie jokes… at least that radar is functional).
I just wish I knew if the movie was making fun of Whitehall, his tv personality, or if he’s really this annoying. I’m guessing its his tv persona but I couldn’t find the fun of him being ultra annoying wrapping presents across from an annoyed Dave Bautista. Hahah? I’m sure this is a hoot for his fans.
And then he hangs out with members of the UK’s bobsled team… and later a professional musher (of a husky team). And… huh? I mean… I guess this is a tv personality guy hanging out with local celebs kind of thing. But I’m just guessing. Sure spends a lot of time – and Jamaican bobsled team jokes with them.
Look, I get it. I’m an ignorant American and this whole thing was meant for the UK audience. Maybe his annoying personality and hanging around friends and sports teams is part of his brand? So I’m charitably giving it an extra half star for my ignorance. Yay.
