Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is another movie based on Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan character previously played by Alec Baldwin (Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger), and Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears). Not sure who wanted another one… much less a reboot starring Chris Pine, Keira Knightly in a thankless roll, and Kevin Costner. Chris Pine isn’t a good enough actor to pull off the “I’m just an analyst” schtick that Baldwin did well in the past… he’s trying and makes his hands shake after acts of violence… but he’s not believable as anything but a big Hollywood action hero (something Ford had a problem with too, I suppose). This isn’t a bad movie… it’s just kind of a pointless, generic spy flick that doesn’t really need to exist but doesn’t really insult or kick puppies or anything.
