Checked out the new action/spy/comedy Keeping Up with the Joneses starring Zack Galiafanakis, Jon Hamm, Isla Fisher, and Gal Gadot. Fisher and Galifanakis are boring married suburban couple with kids who get mixed up in spy shenanigans when the new next door neighbors turn out to be undercover agents.
I laughed at the trailer, but I didn’t laugh at the movie. It’s an odd review though since I can’t say the movie is particularly bad. I was moderately engaged and I thought the actors all gave it the college try, but the script just wasn’t good enough. The jokes just land flat or were so obvious in the setup they didn’t work at the punchline. That said, comedy is subjective, some of the audience members laughed, and maybe I’m a grump. Because, like I said, it’s otherwise a decent movie.
Gal Gadot turns in a good performance giving me hope for Wonder Woman (it was hard to see if she was a good actor or not in Batman v. Superman since she had almost no lines). This only matters to the extent she’s getting her own superhero flick and will show up in more so good that she isn’t wooden?
But, yeah, not a lot more to say.
