Kicking Blood: A Vampire Love Story is a vampire flick that’s not particularly interested in being a vampire flick. Instead, it’d rather – quite flatly – wants to be an exploration of addiction and recovery. And its not terrible at doing so… but it is pretty forgettable.
This little indie flick is about a vampire lady who takes in an alcoholic thinking she’ll eat him… but winds up letting him detox in her apartment. The vampire soon finds herself possibly in love and certainly encouraged to kick her own habit.
And… that’s about it. A pretty talky little vampire flick that’s more of an addiction drama with a side of romance. It has a couple of bad guy vamps to add a tiny drop of horror… but that almost feels like an afterthought to get the movie close to an 80 minute run-time.
Nothing particularly right or wrong about this one. It kind of reminded me of the far superior Only Lovers Left Alive. I suspect I’ll have forgotten this flick in no time. It’s not terrible, but it’s just not memorable.
