Let it Snow

Also watched the new Netflix romantic comedy Let it Snow. This is based on a book consisting of three interconnected teen romance short stories written by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle. The movie follows the same path though it interweaves the stories “better” – but really just in a way that makes more sense to a movie’s structure.

So it’s a cold snowy day and various teens are worrying about love, relationships, their future, and music. They wander in and out of each others stories as they stumble and fumble into relationships. The stories tend to unite around a particularly bad waffle house which represents the nucleus of their social lives (and they have a party there… for reasons).

This flick doesn’t move any goal posts of quality and it ain’t changing the world… but it’s cute. It’s reasonably funny and well acted by various young actors. But my grumpy heart was on vacation and I shouted “kiss her!” at the screen and went “awwww” on at least three occasions. You know, I might have squealed. Weird. Anyhow, it’s charming and sweet and fluffy and light.

The cast includes, most notably, Isabela Moner (who recently played Dora the Explorer) and Kiernan Shipka (who stars as Sabrina the Teenage Witch in the Netflix show The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina). So Dora and Sabrina team up in a movie and bring along Jacob Batalon (Ned from the recent Spiderman movies). I imagine some of the other young actors are famous in their own right. They are all joined by Joan Cusack for olds.

So, yeah, check it out for a pretty good and certainly romantic little winter/Christmas movie. I enjoyed the cast and the stories well enough.
