Saw Spielberg’s Lincoln movie – a 2 1/2 movie that has maybe 1 action scene and is otherwise endless conversations, monologues, debates, and hardcore, balls-deep voting.
And it’s pretty awesome.
Any movie that can develop genuine suspense and fascination over a vote on the 13th amendment (abolishing slavery) is a movie that’s figured out how to do something right. I mean, we all kind of know how that vote turned out… yet the events as filmed (by a master) manages to work.
The acting in the movie is pretty great and if Daniel Day Lewis doesn’t win all the acting awards, then there’s something wrong. He (and a bunch of others) somehow managed to make endless speechifying interesting, fascinating, believable, and smart. I almost made this movie a double-feature with Twilight Part 4, Breaking Dawn Part 2… which would have made for a doubly hilarious day at the movies.
