Caught the new sci-fi adventure flick The Maze Runner – a story about a bunch of young amnesiacs who wake up in a field surrounded by massive concrete walls that open during the day open into a mysterious maze. Why are they there and what’s the purpose of the maze? What surprised me is that there is a mystery to the movie that’s well told and intriguing – it gives a few hints (which it shouldn’t have) but generally I was left wondering what’s going on throughout (though sometimes it leaves things unexplained to the detriment of the film… speaking of “stings” and what that means). So the surprise was welcome. The movie looks great and has a specific look and a creature design that was pretty neat. Some solid action scenes and chases as well. This isn’t a great film but it’s a far sight better than expected.
Based on a YA novel of which I read about three pages and put down in disgust over the writing quality.
