I thought this Italian flick started decently in its quirky way… then it just kind of dragged a bit during it’s deepest romantic comedy bits, but it pulled out of the nose dive with a surprisingly sweet finale.
The flick is about an “ugly” girl (but only in movie world… she may have a funny face but she’s hardly ugly) with a terminal genetic diseases. One of those diseases that leaves you luminous but will otherwise surely eventually kill her… or threaten her life when the script calls for it. Until then, she hangs with get gay best friends (male and female) and starts dating an impossibly rich and handsome man who can’t possibly want an ugly duckling like her.
So this is a real mixed review. Can’t really recommend it unless you’re a die-hard rom com fan and then I bet you’ll get a lot out of it. Most other people will probably find it overly quirky and kind of a slog at times. But it has its charms and the more it stays away from the typical rom-com stuff and maybe focuses on the girl and her life-threatening disease, the better it works.
