Saw Pain and Gain – the Mark Whalberg/Dwayne Johnson dumb-criminals-do-dumb-crimes movie… directed by Michael (Transformers) Bay… and it’s actually quite watchable and funny. Based on a true story – three muscle-bound, roided (and Jesus’ed) up weightlifters decide to be criminals… poorly. Some of the stuff that they do is so crazy, the movie feels the need to remind us “this is still based on a true story” at one point. That’s a first. Dwayne Johnson pulled off a really good performance and Mark Whalberg was in his “good acting” phase and not his “really? they pay him?” mode. It goes on a little long and it earns its R (someone take the kid in the audience out of here…) with swearing, nudity, violence, and generally bad behavior.
