Parallel is a low ambition, low-fi sci-fi film about parallel worlds… the whole multiverse open to them and all they could put together was a couple of people wandering through the woods. But, hey, maybe you make do with what ya got?
The film is about a couple at a cabin in the woods trying to put things back together after the death of their son. One day she’s wandering in the woods and stumbles into a parallel world with its own set of people with their own variation of a dead kid. Then there’s parallel folks wandering all over these woods back and forth.
Yeah, I guess when the multiverse is having a moment, you might as well use your backyard to film a movie, conveniently reusing your cast and no special effects or grand ideas. This movie is low ambition to a fault. It kind of has some good ideas as far as mixing and matching the ones you love… and I guess asking some critical questions about what you’ll settle for or whatever.
But, overall, you can just as well not watch the movie as watch it. It offers nothing new and has minimal thrills or suspense. It’s well acted at least and probably earnest enough. It’s mostly not boring. And that’s it.
