Picture This is an inoffensive, unintereting Amazon Prime rom-com. I could end the review there but, hey, it’s me.
It’s about a UK Indian family where one of the daughters is about to get married while the other has no interest in marriage. She runs a photography studio and wants to focus on that. But <hands wave> she winds up on various very bad dates. And she has a gay best friend..
I guess I smiled or maybe smirked a few times in the film but a lot of the comedy felt routine for the genre. There wasn’t a lot of focus on one dude so the ultimate focus on which repugnant man was least repugnant wasn’t very interesting. I did feel a little for the mother/daughter relationship by the end of the film at least.
The lead Simone Ashley is quite lovely and appears to have knack for comedy. Maybe with a better script, her charisma could shine through.
This isn’t an aggressively bad film, it’s just a boring one. So if you are a romantic fool and love the genre, you’ll probably find enough kernels of interest in this one. Maybe those of us less in-tune may want to stay away.
