Red Dot isn’t a movie without merits… sometimes its suspense works and the actors have charisma. It’s also a Swedish take on a city folks run into trouble in the country movie… a couple travel to the backwoods of Sweden to camp out and see the Northern Lights. But they run into some rednecks with high powered rifles (with laser scopes) and go on the run to survive.
There’s some pretty decent suspense scenes in the film but the movie sags and I lost interest too quickly. There isn’t enough story or the storytelling isn’t good enough to justify the 90 minute runtime. There’s also some out-of-the-blue backstory and an ugly finale that I don’t think was earned by anything else in the film.
There’s worse suspense thrillers out there… but just as much there’s better. The Swedish setting doesn’t bring much to this subgenre of horror film. It’s an ok-ish film.
