Rescued by Ruby is a new Netflix movie that’s apparently based on a true story… so you know whatever drama it has works out in the end or they wouldn’t have made a movie. Apparently the good dog won best search and rescue canine (or some merits like that) a few years ago so… you know. Good Dog.
This is a decent movie about a boy and his dog… and by boy, I mean a young Rhode Island State Trooper who wants to join the K-9 Unit. For reasons I have forgotten, he has to get a shelter dog – a border collie mix – and train her himself to prove that he (and the pooch) have what it takes.
This is a harmless movie with a cute if rambunctious dog in it. It’s decent, watchable, a little flat, a little struggling for artistry. I kind of enjoyed it, mildly, with reservations. There just wasn’t much life to it but I kind of was rooting for the dog (even if the movie takes major short cuts to see her improvement as a search animal).
You could do worse and you could do better. It’s pretty decent and quite G rated wholesome. Good for the family. Watch to the end credits to see the real dog (and some decent behind-the-scenes footage that’s a little more interesting than the movie). Watch me jump up and down in excitement.
