So, hey, women get to have their very own “debauched party where the main characters accidentally kill a stripper” movie! The new movie Rough Night is just that! It’s a comedy! It’s like this weird mix of Very Bad Things and Weekend at Bernie’s. No movie should be compared to Weekend at Bernie’s except maybe Weekend at Bernie’s 2.
Anyway, this one has a good cast with Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Zoe Kravtiz, Jillian Bell, and a surprise Demi Moore. And apparently from the writers/stars of the tv show Broad City which I’ve never seen so I can’t compare.
I didn’t care for the movie. It all comes down to how much you laugh and the movie tried real hard and I chuckled a handful of times, but mainly I was just bored and not connecting to the characters. Humor is super subjective so maybe you’ll like it… or maybe its not meant for dudes (even though I think comedy can work for anyone).
I have nothing much else to say. It has a dude in an adult diaper driving cross country and refusing blow jobs at a gas station. Is that funny? Is disposing of a corpse funny when the movie half the times is a raunchy comedy and the other half a series emotional friendship drama? Maybe that’s the problem – it couldn’t figure out its own tone.
Moving on.
