When the Justice League mysterious vanishes and a flaming phantom stalks the Hall of Justice, Jimmy Olson calls in a favor. The Scooby Gang travels to Metropolis to help solve the crime… if they can evade the rampaging supervillains.
Yes, a mash-up of Hanna-Barbera and Warner Brothers Animation… does the combo make sense? Eh… probably shouldn’t spent too many neurons on that one.
This flick exists to make a lot of jokes about the DC universe and the Scooby Gang. And I handily laughed, chortled, snickered, and even guffawed for the first half of the film. The jokes, the in-jokes, and references flew fast and furious. Deep dives into the history of the franchise… some of which I got, a decent number of which I did not.
But the movie eventually gets down to business and loses some of that s chaotic comic energy. Had to happen – you can’t be one big joke the whole movie. The result isn’t bad, but isn’t as fun.
But it’s still a good natured goof of a movie. You’ll probably have a fun time pointing out the visual references, chortling at the jokes, and just letting the nonsense flow.
