I propose we resurrect Charlies Dickens and give him back his copyright so Hollywood can be stopped from retreading this material. At least lets get a gatekeeper up in this IP. Jeesh.
Yeah, it’s another Christmas Carol. I’d say this time in CGI, but we already know they CGI’d this sucker at least once before… and probably more. This time, it’s the same old story… I guess they add a cute dog to keep the kids interested. And it’s not as manic as the Zemeckis version… though now it has some very unwelcome songs.
Yeah, really bad songs riddle this film… and they make me regret anything bad I said about the songs in Spirited. You know you’re in trouble when the very first song in the very first minute sounds like the world’s most generic Christmas song. It makes me wish I was watching the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special instead… I’ll take Smashing Pumpkins Christmastime song over this pap.
And the actual movie beyond the songs? It starts a little slow and I was getting ready to badger the film with a particularly cruel review… but eventually the old Christmas Carol jazz kicks in and the movie turns out to be a perfectly fine version of the exact same story you already know.
I’m not tap dancing over Scrooge’s grave on this one. It’s serviceable and gets the job done in between some rather dismal musical decisions. I was moderately entertained despite my best efforts. But can we stop now?
