Sheroes is about four friends visiting Thailand on a girls trip. Due to a mixup of bags, they run afoul of the Thai drug cartel and have to use their completely made up on the spot set of skills to get themselves out of trouble. All while being glamorous badasses, of course.
This film is total try-hard women’s power fantasy. Nothing against such films as long as they are done well… but this film is amateurish at best, full of bad acting, bad dialog, bad action, terrible pacing, and desperate attempts at being That Bitch. It takes forever to get its story rolling and, when it does, I didn’t buy these ladies having the core skills they manifest out of nothing. Well, not nothing… one of them has a dad who produces action movies so clearly that’s a useful skill for military extractions. Because that’s how reality works.
But, hey, men have been making power trip fantasies for decades too, right? Why not the ladies? Well, a lot of those movies are shit too so equality for the masses, I guess?
In different hands, this might have been something. It’s main problem is bad pacing in a trite, borderline exploitative scenario. The film conflates a power fantasy with putting them in slinky outfits and letting the camera ogle them. I’m not convinced this is progress.
This flick is desperate try-hard posturing… the movie constantly telling us how bad these girls are without convincingly proving it. This flick is nothing but undercooked self-aggrandizing with a tiny handful of mediocre action scenes.
