Something from Tiffany’s oozes so much charisma and chemistry that it blew past my cynicism and squirreled its way into my brain (or maybe my heart). This is an enormously charming and cute Christmas-based romantic comedy with great leads and costars.
Zoey Deutsch (who has never been more adorable) plays a baker with a boyfriend while Kendrick Sampson is a writer with a girlfriend. Through wildly contrived “only in a rom-com” circumstances, the boyfriends swap Tiffany’s gifts. One box contains diamond earrings, the other an engagement ring. And soon the girlfriends are surprised by their mixed-up gifts and the boyfriends too shocked to point out the mistake.
And I should hate it because the contrived circumstances could be resolved by a quick conversation… but that doesn’t happen because of other contrived circumstances. But who cares when a movie is just this adorable, the cast filled with so much chemistry? The sheer magnetism between the two leads (and a daughter played by Leah Jeffries) makes this flick work.
I kinda adored this contrived little warm hug of a movie and would have loved to give it a higher rating if not for my residual annoyance. But Deutsch could single-handedly punch right through that annoyance by sheer charm… and the chemistry with Kendrick Sampson is palpable (and aspirational). I liked this one.
