Spirited Away is a beautiful but pretty messed up fever dream of a movie. Like someone smoked some wacky tobacky while sick with the flu and had one of the strangest experiences ever…

It’s a wonderful film that had me scratching my head, laughing, and just stunned that I had no idea at all in any way shape or form where the story was going next. No idea at all. And the sheer level of just outright strangeness that didn’t need deep explanations is not to be missed. AND its funny – with some very cute creatures that are not at all like how Disney would do cute sidekicks.

Story matters but sometimes so too just does a post-logic movie where moving images and its own internal logical prevail. But the premise is that a family is on a road trip and stop off at an abandoned park… the little girl gets separated from her parents and enters this world of spirits and creatures. The movie does not have a traditional animted movie narrative though and that’s wonderful.

Well worth checking out.
