It occurs to me that this recent string of veteran actresses (Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Lilly Tomlin, Kathy Bates, etc.) in these screw-around while nothing happens comedies is just the female side of the geezer teaser phenomenon where older actors earn a paycheck for a cuople days work on a clownish action flick. The ladies are getting the better end of the stick though… their 80s for Brady, Moving Ons, Book Clubs, and now Summer Camp are, at least, less embarrassing.
Summer Camp is another one of these… starring Keaton, Bates, and Alfre Woodard as childhood friends reuniting for the 50th anniversary of Summer Camp (is that a thing that happens? Ever? Anywhere?). And they learn valuable life lessons and all that jazz.
I’ll forget this movie tomorrow its so airy and low effort. I didn’t have a fun time with it and these actresses deserve better trash to waste their golden years on. But at least they got a paycheck and I’m positive someone is going to laugh at this one. Not me… but someone.
If you are superfan of any or all of these actresses, you might get a kick out of this. I like all three of them myself but I didn’t laugh or cry or feel much of anything. But I’m a curmudgeon who saw one too many Bruce Willis geezer teasers so what do I know?
