Synchronicity

Also caught the sci-fi/time travel movie Synchronicity which is in limited release but I caught on iTunes digital. It’s a twisty sci-fi movie that seems to be confusing itself for Blade Runner for completely unknown reasons. Seriously, a lot of the shots looked like they were being borrowed from that movie and the synth score was clearly referencing it too – but all for naught since they are hardly similar as movies go.

Anyhow, it’s a flick about a trio of guys who create a time machine that works by starting it up and it creates the mouth of a wormhole and, some time in the future, they have to start the machine again to create the other end of the wormhole, thus allowing them to pass stuff through. Which is an interesting idea and Michael Ironside as the only recognizable actor plays the nefarious investor helping them out. Is he a bad guy? Of course he is. He’s Michael Ironside!

What this movie has going for it is a twisty time travel story where you see events from multiple angles as characters cross into their own time stream. It’s interesting though eventually it gets a little full of itself and I lost focus and interest by the end. Wish it hadn’t been quite so pretentious but it was worthy effort for what was clearly a low budget film.
