Saw the movie Top Five which is a Chris Rock movie most people haven’t heard about… but surprisingly wound up getting very good reviews. So I gave it a shot and it’s not bad… it’s a rambling, shambling movie about a former stand-up comedian who is trying to make serious movies (like the one he’s promoting in the movie – about the Haitian slave rebellion where 50,000 white people are killed… cleverly called Uprize… with a Z!).

The structure is his character doing promotion, dealing with his Reality Star fiance, all while being interviewed by a pretty Times reporter (played by the lovely Rosario Dawson). It’s a movie about celebrity, hollywood, race, and a bunch of other things (including top 5 rappers… hence the terrible title to the movie).

It’s an enjoyable movie that has a bit to say and says it well. Pretty R rated… not that anyone was dragging their kids to it anyway.
