The Weekend Away is about two women on vacation in a <ominousmusic>foreign country</ominousmusic> where one of them goes missing and the other has to find her. And she also finds all the crime. Like… ALL the crime. Everyone is a criminal. Probably because she’s in a <scarymusic>foreign country</scarymusic>.
This is very bland, very drab, very dull movie. It has some moments of suspense and unintentional humor but mainly it just plods along until they decide to reveal what happened. And then sprinkle in some red herrings to pad out the run time. Wait… eighteen more minutes? So that wasn’t the end? Sigh.
I’ve seen worse Netflix movies… and yet this one does land squarely in the “not at all surprised this was a Netflix movie” category. Really adhering to the stereotype. Maybe watch it for Leighton Meester? Maybe not.
