Checked out Why Him?, the new Brian Cranston / James Franco domestic comedy. Cranston’s daughter is marrying weirdo Franco, a tech millionaire who doesn’t have an off switch, swears up a storm, but is genial and happy and clueless…. basically he’s playing a good person who can’t say no and loves everything. Very weird character to object to – seems the worst thing he does is swear and have questionable taste in art. Otherwise he’s an over-enthusiastic puppy dog with millions of dollars. But Cranston hates him.
Anyhow, I didn’t laugh a lot at the movie though, I think with the right crowd, it would be a lot funnier. Thing is though, I enjoyed the movie anyway… it’s got a good heart and its like Franco’s character – it wants to so desperately to be liked, it’s kind of hard to hate it.
So, yeah, I’ve seen much worse and I’ve laughed more at other movies but there’s something about this one I liked. It’s kind of a fun little movie.
