So I caught Zack Braff’s new film Wish I Was Here (also starring Kate Hudson, Joey King, and some others). It’s a drama, it’s a comedy, it’s a dramady. It’s also shaggy and a bit of a mess but it has a ton of heart and some really great and moving scenes. I kind of liked the movie despite its apparent lack of focus and full-time editor. The only real problem, and it’s not insignificant, is that the comedy feels like its from a tv sitcom… it feels so much like everything is a setup for a joke and a laugh-track that doesn’t exist. Happily, it’s not always trying to be a comedy so much as a movie, thoughtful family drama. I liked it.
