For a brief moment, I found this Netflix kids flick kind of funny… and I thought, hey, maybe this isn’t a total waste of my time as a grown-ass adult with no children to excuse me hitting play. And while I’ll stand on the fact I chuckled at some of the corny jokes, this nine hour 90 minute flick is exactly what you think it is. Parents (adult with children, fyi) may get some babysitting time out of it.
The plot… CGI Woody Woodpecker goes to camp to learn how to be a team player. The Not-CGI humans attend rival camps and vie for victory over one another… with the help of anarchist Woody.
Like I said above, I did chuckle at some of the cornball comedy… more than I expected and probably more than the film deserves. Some of the kids were even mildly amusing with their one note characteristics and dopey jokes.
But the movie doesn’t work for a grown-ass adult who has no excuse to be watching it. And yet I rate it. It’s pretty tedious and not even my childhood admiration for Woody as a character survived how long this short movie is. But at least I chuckled. I did chuckle.
