Yes Day is a pleasant but inconsequential family comedy that the kids will probably love. I’m not sure there’s much more for anyone older than a tween though.
The film stars Jennifer Garner as a mother of three who spent all her youth saying yes to life but finds she says nothing but no as a mother. So she and her hubby decide to give her kids a yes day where they (the parents) can’t say no to anything that isn’t dangerous or illegal. And the movie spends time just lazing about, showing the family have fun at various amusements. And then learn some valuable life lessons.
it’s so puffy and good natured that it’s hard to hate it… though it did slip down the rankings in the third act when they decided there needs to be more plot. Half of that was somewhat endearing, half of it was tedious.
Not that it messes up badly and not that it insults the intelligence… it’s just marginally amusing, somewhat charming, and largely kind of nothing. I suspect mothers and daughters (and maybe fathers and sons) may get something out of the occasionally sweet moments between the family members.
