Rented (on iTunes) a new cringe comedy called Yes, God, Yes. No major expectations for it besides a handful of good reviews.
The movie is a teen comedy set in the early 2000s about a teenage girl (played by Natalia Dyer – Nancy from Stranger Things) discovering her sexuality. At a Catholic School. So there’s a lot of guilt and doubt… and, as mentioned above, not a little bit of cringe. She winds up at a retreat to get closer to Jesus… and maybe the cute councilor with the curiously sexy arms.
This is a low key amusing and entertaining movie. It can be pretty risque and doesn’t have kind thoughts towards the teachers and preachers at the school (which, depending on who you are, is either a draw or not). It’s not meant to be a hilarious, side-splitting type of comedy… more a low-key, observational comedy with a touch of cringe and wrongness. I kind of enjoyed it. Low key.
