Boy, The (2016)

Also saw The Boy, a new January horror film about a nanny who hires into a British estate to take care of a creepy boy… mainly creepy by the fact he’s a porcelain toy. So, yes, it’s yet another killer doll movie. I think I’ve seen this movie before.

But a funny thing happened while I was bored and toying with the lid of my soda… the movie started taking some turns that kind of surprised me. And then also managed to look good and keep the cheep jump scares to a minimum. And then it really did something that surprised me. So that doesn’t mean I wasn’t bored and wondering why this movie wasn’t thirty minutes shorter, but it was at least a horror movie that did something different from the usual by-the-numbers crap they do these days.

I just wish it had been a better movie while on the way to be a good looking and surprising flick.

Oh, and it stars Lauren Cohan – on loan from The Walking Dead where she plays Maggie. So, yes, another quickie horror flick during the off season for an actor on a big show. The weird thing is, Lauren Cohan is English and she’s playing an American (with a flat midwest accent, not her Walking Dead southern-friend accent) visiting England and hanging around (presumably) English actors using their real accents.
