Fist Fight

Fist Fight is a new comedy starring Charlie Day and Ice Cube as high school teachers dedicated to having a fist fight after school. If the idea of tiny and screachy Charlie Day and Ice Cube in Bad Ass mode in an adult fist fight doesn’t sound funny, then don’t see this movie.

I appreciate the idea of the movie and I guess I laughed enough times to justify having seen it. It’s not as funny as it could be and your tolerance for Charlie Day may sway you to hate the flick which is unfortunate since there’s a lot of comedic talent in the film.

Charlie Day’s character turns in Ice Cube for going overboard on a student so Cube insists they throw down since snitches get stitches. There’s the plot and the film does a good job of stretching that out to feature length. Oddly though, the scene that made me grin the most was one between Day and his on-screen daughter doing a talent show scene… which has nothing to do with the plot (though it does work for the character’s growth).

So, yeah, this is a decent comedy. Probably could be funnier but the actors commit and there’s even actual low-stakes character growth that’s not just tossed in to give the actor something to do.
