Grace Unplugged

Saw two musically themed movies today, by coincidence, and they couldn’t have been more different. The first was something I went into blindly – no idea what it was.

Grace Unplugged is a Christian-themed movie about the daughter of a one-hit wonder (think Billy-Ray Cyruss and Miley Cyruss) who abandons her family and their church music group and goes off into the great big world of Hollywood to become a pop star… will the vices of secular music ruin our young hero or will her faith in God prevent her soul from becoming corrupt? Will she *gasp* sing the vacuous pop song her agent gives her? Will she do… pretty much nothing that compromises her faith before deciding to go back home and sing Up with God type music instead?

Yes. This is a professionally made movie that’s well acted and it has the standard-issue singer-meets-pop-star-fame story… only nothing particularly bad happens which I guess is good… except it turns a by-the-book story into a buy-the-Book story (if you know what I mean).

No particular reason to see this movie unless you want to see a squeaky-clean faith-based movie where Miley Cyrus doesn’t get naked and ride a wrecking ball.
