Nebraska

And for something slightly different from I, Frankenstein, I also saw the movie Nebraska… up for a couple of academy awards. Bruce Dern (who I haven’t seen in a long time) plays an old guy who is convinced he’s won a million dollars and wants to go to Nebraska to pick up his winnings. Will Forte (MacGruber!) is his son who agrees to drive him, knowing that he hasn’t won anything and it was a scam letter. That’s the basic plot… just a character study in beautiful painterly black & white, an acting movie with a very sedate pace, a semi-good-natured flick that calmly and quietly ruminates over the nature of age, aging, regret, and one’s own importance and stamp on the world. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a mature movie with a sense of humor and drama…. but not for someone who needs fast edits and explosions.
