Assault on Precinct 13 wasn’t that bad. All in all, the original 1970s version was better in terms of building the tension and payoff but this one had a lot better acting and a lot more starpower (that is, it had stars). It is weirdly violent and gives at least seven extreme close-ups of people after they are shot in the head, stabbed in the eye, or otherwise battered about the face and the head… it also is a ruthless movie with our bad guys being just evil bastards…
The flick loses its momentum and gets a little long which is awful for a siege movie like this – but by the end, I really wanted to see a sequel with Ethan Hawk, Drea de Mateo, and Lawrence Fishburne – to see what these characters did next. That’s a positive about the flick and the actors. Drea de Mateo is on the Joey sitcom (the Friends spinoff) where she plays the sister – and she’s pretty awesome in this flick.
