Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Batman vs TMNT is what happens when a million zillion ninjas of the Foot Clan descend on Gotham. Batman joins forces with the turtles to fight Shredder and Ra’s Al Ghul’s fiendish plot… which has something to do with the ooze (of course).

As a mix of the grim crime fighter and the party dudes, this flick gets the mix just right. I laughed quite a bit at the turtles taking the piss out of Gotham. Batman was his usual sourpuss self while the turtles admired the car and all of Gotham’s blimps. I enjoyed how Robin and Batgirl wound up with a foot in both worlds… since they are teenagers too.

The animation is largely of the DC animated style. The turtles, I assume, are based on one of their many reboots. Not my favorite designs but their personalities were solid. Was a little surprised by the level of violence… not outside the realm of the DC animated films but maybe one more decapitation than the turtles usually get.

While quite funny, the movie is simply too long. It’s barely ninety minutes but there’s an awful lot of padding to get that far. It’d have been better if they allowed themselves a snappier 70 minutes and cut out a lot of time-filling fights.

If not for the length, this would have been a great film. As it is, it’s a very good, very funny turtles movie that goofs on the Batman license. Certainly one of the better turtles movies and in the top ten of the DC animated films.
