The logline for this film on a rental streaming service promised Nazi Werewolves so I watched it hoping for a mashup of Dog Soldiers and Overlord. But don’t you believe their lies (at least Letterboxd’s description is honest). This is not a film about Nazi Werewolves… but about Nazi partisans who are called werewolves by local civilians. Lies! But the movie isn’t called Nazi Werewolves, it’s called Burial so I imagine this is just the marketing team’s shenanigans.
So what is Burial about then? In the waning days of WWII, Soviet soldiers are tasked with delivering the rotting corpse of Hitler to Russia. They run into trouble with them pesky Nazi “Werewolves” on their way through Poland.
For what it is, this isn’t the worst low budget WW2 action thriller. There’s some occasionally decent suspense and action scenes, at least. The production value and cinematography are fine. But the characters are all totally underwritten and boring and the majority of the movie’s pacing is plodding and dull.
This movie just isn’t very good, regardless of the marketing promising some B grade action/horror. There are some decent WW2 action thriller sequences that might be enough to appeal to some, but for me, there just wasn’t enough to hang the rest of the mediocre film on. It’s just… blah.
