Also rented the DC animated film The Death of Superman which tells the tale of… you know… the death of Superman. This is from the 90s comic where Doomsday shows up, kills Supes, and the world mourns until it’s the right time to bring him back to sell more comics.
This is a very flimsy story where a deus ex machina villain with no distinctive personality or motivation randomly shows up on Earth, wipes the floor with all the other heroes, and then kills Superman. It’s not enough story to justify a full movie so they pepper it with various side stories of other heroes or of Lois Lane before getting down to the punching.
Basically, it’s a non-story in film form… even by the standards of just wanting to get to the action, the action is perfunctory. We know how it ends (spoiler alert: it’s in the title) so its largely just waiting for the fight, then waiting for the murder. And, in this case, watching for the seeds to suggest the sequel which has to happen since this is only a fourth of the total story.
Normally I’d say the DC animated films are better than the live action ones… well… this is better than Batman v. Superman (which also used Doomsday to kill Supes) but it’s also one of the lesser animated flicks.
