House of Tomorrow, The

Rented a flick on iTunes called The House of Tomorrow, based on a book I read and reasonably enjoyed. I’m afraid the movie, while perfectly ok, just kind of lays there flat. Not the worst movie by a long shot, but kind of argues for its existence.

The main character is a teen who lives in an experimented geodesic dome house invented by a futurist who died decades ago. He lives with his grandmother / architect where he’s home schooled in the ideals of the futurist… and also helps run the tours of the house. He meets another teen who is super into punk rock and his dad who thinks the kid needs to get out of the house. It’s basically a coming-of-age film where the kid gets a girlfriend, learns to rock out, and basically just gets away from the weird ideas that have kept him isolated from the rest of humanity.

Nothing wrong with the movie… but I’ve seen much better coming-of-age movies and “kid learns to freedom through rock ‘n roll” type stuff. It’s a little anti-intellectual too, I suppose, and I didn’t really like that. But, hey, I’ve seen worse.
