Grinch, The

So… The new animated film version of The Grinch is, at least, better than the Jim Carrey version. I mean, on the graduated scale of badness, it’s a few notches in the positive column. You just have to ask if you want to watch the classic 30 minute one or the unnecessary extended version.

So The Grinch is an 82 minute version of the same story, fleshed out with a lot of details that assure us that The Grinch isn’t JUST a “mean one”… he’s really emotionally traumatized as a child to hate Christmas because he was an orphan. Did you need your Grinch psychoanalyzed? I think the Carrey one might have done that too.

But, I’m doing a shrug right now. This isn’t a terrible movie… I’m sure kids will love it and, to the extent it’s not too annoying, the parents will be able to tolerate it too. It’s kind of harmless, it’s also a little toothless and does run in a little too long for its 82 minutes.

See it if that gets the kids to stop screaming about it. Watch the original if you can fool them into thinking this is the one they should watch. I dunno. Don’t see it. Whatever.
