Her Name Was Jo

I found this movie thoughtful and touching if a little too slow and uneventful for its running time. But it was fairly interesting and pretty well acted and kind of had something to say by omission.

The film is about a scrappy independent little girl who, after her step-dad overdoses, decides to go to LA to find her real dad. Not that she needs a dad. As long as she has can steal her dad’s car and pawn his stuff, she think she’ll make it no problem. All doesn’t go as planned.

A little girl able to cross the country without running into any authority figures or other adults who want to help her suggest an unspoken theme. I have to believe that was intentional. Not sure ultimately what the point was though.

Not a bad film. Requires a lot of patience though but I think it works well enough to carry it over the finish line.
