I know nothing of the true story this is based on, but I do know it’s better than most Happy Maddison films. It almost rates as a good flick but settles on being inoffensively harmless.
The film stars Kevin James as superbowl-winning coach who got into a scandal and was suspended. He decides to coach his son’s losing high school football team in his downtime. So it’s basically an underdog story… but where the underdogs are being coached by a pro.
I’ve seen worse films and I’ve seen worse films about hapless kid sports teams. Seen better ones too. This movie is fine and wholesome and its comedy is on a more mature level than Happy Maddison usually delivers.
And… yeah… maybe if you like football more than me (odds are good), you might enjoy this film in a bit more than me. Or maybe it’ll seem even less believable. I dunno. It’s an ok watch. Predictable, inoffensive, and with a pretty good set of final moments.
