Hot Tube time Machine is a whole movie that missed opportunity to be really really funny.

The rather (intentionally) stupid and silly movie posits what if you could travel in time back to the 80s by partying in some kind of Hot Tub Time Machine. Never has there been a more apt title for a movie.

But why not throw in some Cusack movie jokes while you’re time traveling to the high point in his career? I mean, that was a golden opportunity to get meta on the audience – they were willing to do it with Craig Robinson’s line about “some kind of hot tub time machine” and stares directly at the camera. Couldn’t they have made a throw-away joke about being “better off dead” or something? I guess Cusack kind of wore his Say Anything coat…

But otherwise, I just thought it could have been funnier but it wasn’t a particularly bad movie either. I was amused.
