Hotel Transylvania: Transformania

You know, I swear I thought the third Hotel Transylvania was decent… I didn’t care much for the firs two but maybe I’d turned a corner and started to admire the goofy comedy. But this fourth film makes me think I was on happy pills while watching the third.

Transformania has a decent idea at its core. The human husband of Drac’s daughter decides he needs to be a monster… and in so doing, Drac and his friends are accidentally transformed into humans. What follows is the usual level of noise and sad jokes with the usual gummy limbed animation.

It’s telling that I was more interested in the voice over performances than anything involving the plot or comedy. Adam Sandler didn’t return for this one so I spent more time listening to his replacement for any tells. It seems they could have replaced Sandler years ago since the new actor does the exact same thing, probably for less money. It looks like the other actors are back… Buscemi, Gomez, Sandberg, etc.

And… I didn’t laugh and wasn’t much amused. I’m a sourpuss when it comes to the comedy stylings of this franchise. I should probably just be ignored.
