Little Women (2018)

Also caught the latest film version of Little Women… did you know there was a new remake of Little Women actually out in theaters right now? You didn’t? No surprises there… terrible marketing, no faith by the studio, I suspect.

This is a modern update to the story that, unfortunately, I really disliked. I honestly can’t remember enough plot points from the original book to say how much is accurate or what’s been skipped. I was largely kind of bored by most of this update flick (though they did a good job of modernizing the plot points). And it didn’t help that the main character – Jo March – was an unpleasant, judgmental hack writer who thought she deserved everything for her crappy fanfiction. To be fair, she has to learn her lesson and maybe those elements of her character were in the original novel, but this film’s writing did her no favors.

There are moments of quality and, hey, poor doomed Beth dies like always and its always going to be a little sad. But this is a version of the story that can be skipped.
