Long Weekend

Long Weekend is a good, sweet romance… a romantic film that’s occasionally funny but not a romantic comedy. A simple romance seems pretty rare so was curious enough to give it a shot. But it does have a twist that I didn’t realize was in the movie… it was predictable based on clues in the script and it was welcome (if not strictly necessary).

The film stars Finn Witrrock and Zoe Chao as a cute young couple who meet at a movie theater. She picks him up and takes him to a bar and they quickly fall for each other. But she’s evasive about her life and certain things don’t add up… but he loves her anyway.

There isn’t a lot of plot in their romantic story… but there is more story structure around the twist narrative. But the odd thing is, for much of the movie, that narrative doesn’t really matter to the simple romance. They could almost cut it out of the movie and have the same basic story. But I guess that would leave the movie without drama… and it was an intriguing idea.

I don’t really have any complaints about the movie. It’s a sweet, well acted movie starring two actors with pretty solid chemistry. I’ve “aww”ed more at other romantic couples but they still work together. I enjoyed this film’s fairly chill vibe.
