Moderator, The

The Moderator is the kind of bad movie that you’re surprised still gets made. A monumentally moldering mess that barely qualifies as having a plot. So full of bad acting, low-energy action, bad editing, and the worst performance from someone who’s nominally the star. And the worst part? This low-budget exploitation cringe thinks its profound.

The flick is barely focused on a supermodel who is also an urban legend known as the Moderator who cancels perverts and sickos on message boards… and then stalks and murders them. And it’s about the intelligence agents who barely control their boredom while more-or-les investigating the case. Oh, and a sinister singer/rapist who gets a lot of screen time for not having much to do with anything.

The gal on the box, the theoretical star of this turkey, is a bad actor… not only because she delivers her lines unconvincingly but because she can’t convincingly throw a punch or do anything else without looking like she’s trying to hit her marks. I have no idea who she is or why she got a movie… maybe because she’s cool with showing her ass in the opening scene. And then moralize about objectification of women.

But, hey, at least she’s only in maybe a third of this flick. The rest of the time is spent with bored actors investigating these crimes and a rapist. Want to see women raped or attacked and then get a lecture about violence against women?

The sick, sad thing is it feels like they were building to some B movie shlocky revenge ending. Big bad bloody supermodel takes her revenge for the sisterhood. But no… the movie just kind of has an abrupt end as if they ran out of money or were distracted by shiny objects.

This is just an unfocused, no budget mess with bad actors and the audacity to think it’s about something. I’d like to say, “at least it has a message” but that’s not even true. Nobody should watch and I should retroactively go back in time and ask myself why I even hit play. I’m my own worst enemy… but at least it lets me write a scathing review. That’s fun.
