Monsters is a super-low-budget ($15,000) movie filmed on digital with consumer-grade FX. It’s about the results of a space probe that crashes in Mexico and the giant squid-monsters that appear after. The US and Mexican government have quarantined part of Mexico (there’s a great big wall on the border now – so there’s definitely some message to the movie, but not much).

The movie doesn’t feature the monsters very much – basically its about the people who live in a world where Godzilla could come stomping along and knock down your buildings while fighters and tanks scurry around (all CG and usually very well done).

I was rather impressed – an art-house monster movie. Kind of slow paced though but in that the movie was made at all on that budget was impressive.
