I saw the new magicians/heist movie Now You See Me (starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrolson, Isla Fisher and more)… and it’s a decent movie that’s far too in love with how clever and fun it thinks it is while actually only being about half as clever and fun as it thinks it is. It’s one of those movies that supposed to have “ah ha!” reveals at the end where we see how they did the tricks or pulled off crimes with magic, but too much of that is centered around a mentalists ability to literally program anyone’s brain with hypnosis – so much so that it might as well be actual magic. It’s so bad that the plot holes in the movie are conveniently filled in with “that person was hypnotized”. It’s a reasonable entertainment, but since you probably haven’t heard of it, it’s also passable.
