Radioflash

Rented a very bad movie on iTunes called Radioflash. The premise and angle was interesting so I gave it a blind watch… which was a big bad mistake.

So a Radioflash is another name for an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) and that’s what happens in this sci-fi/action/drama. The electrical grid of the US is wiped out and a father and daughter have to get out of the city and meet up with a relative who is a doomsday prepper. The angle this movie suggests is that the teenage daughter is a gamer (and expert at VR Escape Rooms) and will use her digital game theory for real, analog survival. Except that doesn’t remotely happen and the movie just falls apart on its premise but also on drama and thrills.

Well over half of the film takes place when the daughter is kidnapped by hill people who don’t even realize there’s been an EMP. So the basic premise of the movie is forgotten and it just becomes a “city folk get harassed by a mountain folk” thriller. And the daughter gets locked in a “cellar” and proceeds to not even try to escape the room… so even the premise of her using her gaming wits is tossed aside. All of this would be ok, I suppose, if any of the chases and escapes and whatnot were remotely interesting. But most of the movie is just long-winded chatter while people run around in the woods, saving vast sums of money on budget.

Stay away form this one if you happen to see it for rent. Because that’s the only way you’ll notice it… and even then, you’d have likely pass it by.
