Rising Wolf (as it’s known in the US… or at least on streaming) is a flick about a woman trapped in a high-tech elevator of a high-rise. The elevator has the bad habit of dropping suddenly, throwing her to the ceiling and then stopping just as fast, crashing her to the floor. This goes on for an hour and forty minutes.
I really learned to hate this film. She’s being tormented and forced to watch her father be tortured on the elevator’s screen/wall so that’s something else that happens in this movie. The villains are controlling the elevators sudden drops, you see. And interminable sequences of her just… being trapped in an elevator. It just goes on and on and on.
The film has a sci-fi angle in that she apparently has some kind of super power (on top of having amnesia). This is an idea that’s peppered throughout using flashbacks but they aren’t very interesting nor are things explained very well. The movie tries to introduce some ascendant transformative mind-expanding stuff and I give it credit for the ambition. But by the time that stuff happens, I’d long since checked out. It has no impact on being stuck in an elevator for dozens upon dozens of minutes, not doing anything interesting.
I was astonished that it took a full hour for her to find a way out of the elevator and I wondered what we had seen up to that point. Four walls and torture. But she gets out and then goes right back in. Because more locations would require a bigger budget, I guess.
Really disliked this film for not respecting my time. It was so so so boring… and I’m actively astonished they made the movie as long as they did knowing they had nothing going on for such long stretches. It was a thorough waste of time.
